Senior Creative Technologist, Software

Deeplocal is hiring a senior creative technologist with a software engineering background who wants to work on a team of incredible engineering and creative talent to create experiential work for the world’s top brands. While this position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and candidates outside of Pgh must be willing to eventually relocate, there is a good amount of flexibility on relocation timing.

As a senior CT, you’ll be a part of our integrated engineering team. You’ll use your software skills on a wide variety of consumer-facing projects to create unique experiences for brands like Google, Nike, Netflix, Slack, and others. This is an opportunity for an experienced developer who wants to collaborate with software, electrical, and mechanical engineers as well as a broad creative team.

Specifically, we’re looking for a full stack developer who wants to be hands on bringing interactive experiences to life. This role will mentor more junior team members, work self-sufficiently as a tech lead on their own projects, and be comfortable in client-facing meetings. Experience with physical interactive exhibits, interactive content, or live events is a plus.

The senior CT will bring deep skills and experience to the team, but also the broad knowledge of a generalist who is excited to learn new tools and technologies when necessary. We’re also looking for a creative thinker & problem-solver. We want someone who can tell when a project calls for digging into whitepapers and developing something novel and/or when piecing together an off-the-shelf solution for a prototype is appropriate.

In terms of specific technical skills, the ideal candidate will at least working-level (or deep) knowledge of the following:

  • Node.js
  • Python
  • React
  • Git, linting, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Google Cloud Platform or AWS
  • Containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Controlling or orchestrating hardware with software

Ideally, the candidate will also bring deep knowledge in other specific fields, such as: AI/ML, Unity, mobile app development, conversational interfaces, or… well, you tell us.

Deeplocal is not a product company so the projects you will be working on are always different. The ideal candidate will be excited by this opportunity to work on a wide range of projects—from websites to robots to roller coasters—and energized by the swift speed in which we go from concept to public release. Check out for a sample of some recent Deeplocal projects.

While we’ve titled this job “senior technologist”, we are ultimately looking beyond a number of years of work experience. We are looking for people who recognize the unique space that Deeplocal works in and want to be a part of it. So, we still want to hear from you even if you don’t have 5+ years of experience; especially if you:

  • Have worked as a freelancer / know what it’s like to be responsible for all aspects of a business
  • Are bored with long development cycles
  • Always have a side project and love getting new things out into the world
  • Love mixing software with hardware
  • Have worked in a client-services role

How We’re Working Through COVID

Deeplocal is focused on keeping our employees safe and informed during COVID. Beginning in  February 2020 until now, our physical office has been closed or open at a greatly reduced capacity. The majority of our employees are working from home; only employees who need equipment in the office or in our fabrication facility are going into our physical spaces. For employees who are visiting the office, we’ve put in place strict diagnostic procedures (including mask-wearing) that all employees are following. With roughly 20,000 square feet of space and typically fewer than 10 employees in the office, social distancing is safe and easy.

Our team transitioned to this flexible working situation quickly and easily, as we were already used to using remote collaboration tools on a daily basis such as Slack, Google Drive, 15Five, and others. While future policy changes are still in the works, we are committed to retaining employee flexibility moving forward and prioritizing the safety of our team members above all else.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past.
