The Architectural Installation Designer is responsible for the design and architectural integration of semi-permanent and permanent installations that Deeplocal creates for our clients. This position works closely with industrial designers and electrical, software and integration engineers to create an experience, installation or exhibit that is both visually impressive and structurally sound.
This person will also take the lead in coordinating all aspects of construction, acting as the primary contact for architects, interior designers and general contractors who are acting on the client’s behalf. You should be able to understand a client’s technical requirements, and feel comfortable representing Deeplocal in conversations about building design, installation design, architectural drawings and construction processes. You will work on projects from start to finish - through technical design, prototyping, fabrication, and installation.
A background in Architecture, Construction, or Interactive Exhibit Design is required, and experience in mechanical design or fabrication is beneficial. As you will create 3d models and drawings, and in-turn produce physical installations from them, you should understand how something is made (even though you will not necessarily be involved in fabricating it.)
Required skills include 3D modeling and rendering, and design of exhibit layouts and plans using SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite. Ability to perform machining and carpentry work will be an advantage. A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil/Architectural Engineering, or Industrial Design is required, along with a portfolio of work.
This positions reports to the VP of Engineering, and is based in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Architectural Installation Designer is responsible for the accountabilities listed below:

Develop designs in accordance with realities of budget, production timelines, and codes and regulations.
Construction Integration - Meet with client team to determine functional or spatial requirements, review or discuss architectural drawings, and integrate Deeplocal exhibit elements into unified architectural designs. Coordinate with architects, general contractors, interior designers and technical clients to ensure that the installation is built to code and according to client standards.
Project Leadership - Develop and manage fabrication/build, testing, shipping & installation schedules and ensure that changes requested by the client, architects, or general contractors are both communicated to the internal team, and reflected in the schedule. Manage a database of vendors.
Perform On-site Installations - Travel to site locations and work with client partners to install semi-permanent and permanent installations in buildings all over the world.
